Learning in a changing world: When more is less, and less is more
Recent advances in brain- and cognitive research unveil processes, windows of opportunity and methods that can promote the acquisition and the retention of learned information and the updating of knowledge in response to change. Of particular interest is the observation that recalled information becomes susceptible to modification within a few minutes to hours after its retrieval. The process, termed "reconsolidation", can be exploited to optimize training and retraining in and outside the classroom.
